Scanning Your Computer for Infected Files/Viruses
How to scan your computer for infected files/viruses.
We use antivirus products from a company called ESET in our district. It runs real time scanning so it is always searching for threats, however you are welcome to initiate a manual scan at any time.
If you are on a district Windows device with ESET products installed,
run a Computer scan
. If you are on your personal device or do not have an ESET product installed,
run the ESET Online Scanner
(using default settings). The ESET Online Scanner looks at your system from a different perspective than a typical ESET Computer scan. The ESET Online Scanner requires you to click on the Free Scan Now option on the left hand side of the page to download their tool esetonlinescanner_enu.exe, after downloading you will need to execute that file and follow the on screen directions.
Look for your ESET product - Open the main program window by double-clicking the ESET icon
in your Windows notification area or by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Smart Security, ESET Endpoint Security, ESET NOD32 Antivirus or ESET Endpoint Antivirus. (you will only have one of these installed, they are different product lines we use)
Click Computer scan → Scan your computer to initiate the computer scan.
Upon completion, a summary window showing the number of scanned, infected, and cleaned objects will be displayed. To view detailed results of the Computer scan log, click Show log.
Leave detected threats in the quarantine
Files in the quarantine will not run on your computer again as they are stored there in an inert, encrypted format that is useful for analysis.
