Class Expectations

Classroom Rules/Expectations:

  • Be in your assigned seat ready to work at the start of class. 
  • Be responsible for your work. (Bring supplies and homework every day).
  • Be respectful to other students and all staff. (Example: One person has the floor at a time during whole-class instruction)
  • Cell phones and electronic devices should not be heard or seen.
    • Phones will be confiscated and taken to the office for parent pickup.
  • Food (candy, gum, snacks, etc) and drinks cannot be consumed in the classroom. These items must be left in the student's locker until lunch time.
  • Adhere to all school rules in accordance with the Student Handbook. (dress code, behavior, bullying, etc).

 ‚ÄčLockers:‚Äč Each student is required to put all personal belongings in their locker to include lunches/snacks, backpacks, bags, purses, coats, hats, etc.  These items are not allowed in the classroom for any reason so it is important to make sure the lock is locked. School locks will be provided and a replacement lock will cost $5.  

Classwork/Homework Policy:

  • Show all calculations and work even if you do it in your head or on a calculator. Please write in complete sentences.
  • Homework is due the next day unless otherwise specified.
  • Daily classwork and homework is due the day it is due.Work will not be excepted late unless it is a project or presentation. Projects and presentation will be accepted up to three days late with a 10% reduction each day.



  • Students who are found to have plagiarized their work or willing provided their work to another student to be plagiarize will result in a 0 for the assignment and parent contact.There will be a note on the assignment in Powerschool.
  • Students who plagiarize their assignment are subject to a discipline referral.
  • No name papers: No name papers will not be graded.I cannot prove that it is your student’s work and I want your student to get credit for their work.


Absences/Make-up Work:

  • If absent, it is the responsibility of the student to find out assignments missed and pick up any handouts or notes missed.
  • Students that are absent on a test day will be expected to report to the teacher on the first day back to school to make arrangements to re-schedule the test/quiz. If only one day is missed, then the student will be expected to take the test/quiz on the next day of class.


Consequences of General Misconduct:

  • 1st Offense – Warning/Re-direction
  • 2nd Offense – Conference with student and parent contact.
  • 3rd Offense – Conference with parent, counselor, or administrator
  • 4th Offense – Office referral


Restroom Breaks:

  • Please encourage your student to use the 3-minute passing period to use the restroom and get a drink. The first and last 10 minutes of class students will not be able to exit unless there is an emergency.



  1. Interactive Notebook: Students will be required to keep a notebook with notes, quizzes, assignments, and other activities.This needs to be brought to class everyday.
  2. Vocabulary Notebook: Students will be adding new vocabulary words to this notebook each week. 

Grading Calculations: Math 

Homework: 15%         
Classwork: 25%          
Quiz: 25%       
Test: 35%

Tests/Quizzes:  Tests and quizzes will be announced and posted.  At the end of the course, students will take the NC End of Grade Test in 8th grade math.
