“LCS scholars have done an amazing job of getting into some of the best universities in the state.  Our 165 stand out high academic scholars have been accepted to UNC Chapel Hill, High Point University, Appalachian State, NC State, and a host of other great schools.  We are so proud of the hard work that these students exhibited to obtain their scholar designations,” said Dr. Anitra Wells, Superintendent of LCS. “We have recent scholars who have gained college credits and will be second semester freshmen and in some cases sophomores in college next year because of the access they had to community college courses.  Our goal is for more of our LCS scholars to graduate high school with an Associates Degree and be able to save on college tuition in the future.”

Lexington City Schools administrators, educators and personnel are committed to producing students destined to be leaders, collaborators, problem solvers, critical and innovative thinkers, and global citizens.

Current LCS students have access to many different initiatives designed to maximize their exposure and set them ahead of the curve prior to graduation such as:

    • The new LCS Internship Program
    • CTE Career Exploration and Stem Camps
    • Industry Certifications; such as Microsoft, Food Handlers, Entrepreneurship/Small Business, and OSHA 10 to name a few.
    • Apprenticeship with DDAC -  Davidson Davie Apprenticeship Consortium

“We are extremely proud of our students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives!  While at Lexington Senior High School, students have had the opportunity to participate in a wide array of classes designed to provide Real-World experiences through their Career Technical Education (CTE) classes,” said Ms. Nicole Piggott, CTE and Student Services Director. “CTE Teachers do a phenomenal job of connecting skills and attributes that students will need to be successful in college or a career. From our 5th Grade Career Expo, to Summer Career Exploration STEM Camps, to the Summer Internship Program, to the many certifications and credentials that students have earned - LSHS students are immersed in making connections and creating paths for a bright future!”

The CTE department is a grant based program, funded by the Carl D Perkins Career and Technical Education Act signed into law in 1984. The latest version of the Perkins Act was passed by congress in July 2018, and is known as the Strengthening Career & Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.
