Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Derek Kelly
I began working for Lexington City Schools since in February of 2010 as a substitute teacher at Lexington Senior High School teaching 9th grade World History. I was later hired in 2013 as a Student Refocus Coordinator with the In School Suspension program. Later, I was moved into the classroom teacher social studies. After passing the state praxis, I became the 7th grade AIG social studies teacher. I was appointed the department chair of social studies in 2014. In 2020, I began teaching 7th grade ELA.
I have served on the Instructional Leadership Team, as the School Improvement Team chair, on the Opportunity Culture Committee, the District Discipline Committee, and currently the Superientendent Advisory Committee.
I am a graduate of Shaw University in Raleigh, NC with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion & Philosophy. I have complete continuing education classes at University of Phoenix in Tempe, AR and graduate classes at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
My goal in 7th grade ELA is to provide students with the necessary tools to be succesful in 8th grade and High School. My purpose in education is to prepare students to succeed in society by being critical thinkers.
