From the Principal’s Desk
Welcome to another school year! However, this will be no ordinary school year. We have been working hard this summer to make South Lexington School and Developmental Center the best place to learn and play. It is my vision and mission to create energy and excitement each and everyday, so students, families, staff, and the community will feel welcome. This vision and mission includes a spirit of excellence that will be stamped on everything we do, because each of you deserves our best! This spirit will be what drives us to create a place where students can thrive, feel safe, and cared for, so they can grow and learn things that will help them be prepared for the next level. Here’s to a great year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Richards

I am excited about joining the South Lexington family. I am grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to learning with the administration team, the teachers, students, and the community to make this a fantastic school year.
I received my undergraduate degree from High Point University in Mental Disabilities. I later returned to High Point University for a graduate degree in Education with a concentration in Special Education. I also have an add-on certification as an Exceptional Children Director and Leadership and a certification in Elementary Education (K-6). In addition, I received my school administration degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro through the Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools (PPEERS) program.
Before joining the South Lexington family, I taught Special Education at Pickett Elementary School for thirteen years and Fort Dorchester Elementary School in Summerville, South Carolina, for five years. I am ecstatic about the possibilities this school year will bring and proud to be a part of the Jacket Family as we challenge all students to "Be Somebody."

Welcome to Preschool! I am so excited for our youngest learners to enter the classrooms. This year will be filled with learning and growth, which is all wrapped up in the magic of preschool. In preschool, we have fun and learn through play and active exploration of the educational classroom. Each classroom is designed to foster the development of social, motor, and academic skills. South Lexington Preschool is a “5 star” rated daycare licensed facility by the state of North Carolina. Our staff strives to maintain the highest standards set forth by the state.
As the school year starts, this will be my 29th year working for Lexington City Schools. I was a preschool teacher for 20 years before moving into the position of Preschool Coordinator. My experience is in providing special education services for preschool students. My goal is for all students to have a positive preschool experience full of wonder and learning. I enjoy working with families to meet the needs of children as they start their educational journey in school. Communication is the key to success! Please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance.
