Lexington City Schools Announces New Administrative Appointments and Transfers

Lexington City Schools is pleased to announce the recent appointments and transfers approved by the Board of Education during its monthly meeting on June 4, 2024. These changes demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional leadership and support for our students, staff, and community.

New Administrative Appointments:

  • Elizabeth Felts: assumes the role of Director of School Improvement, Research, and Accountability. With extensive experience in curriculum development and instructional leadership, she brings a wealth of expertise to this position.

  • Katelyn Brown: has been appointed as the Director of School Nutrition. Her background in nutrition management and program development will be instrumental in enhancing our district’s nutrition services.

  • Rod Pitt: joins Lexington Senior High School as Assistant Principal, bringing with him a proven track record of educational leadership and a dedication to student success.

Administrative Transfers:

  • Nathan Tongel: transitions to the role of CTE Career and Instructional Management Coordinator and Special Populations Coordinator. His background in career development and instructional leadership will contribute significantly to our district’s continued growth.

  • Kenya Shear-Jones: has been appointed as the EC Administrator, leveraging her expertise to provide comprehensive support for students with exceptional needs.

  • Andre Mumford: assumes the role of Administrator at Jacket Academy, where his leadership skills will drive the academy's mission and goals forward.

Lead Teacher Appointments:

  • Mischa Miles: will serve as the Lead Teacher at Lexington Senior High School (LSHS).

  • Stacy Ellison: has been appointed as the Math Lead Teacher at Lexington Middle School (LMS).

  • Stephanie Sanchez: will be the English Language Arts (ELA) Lead Teacher at LMS.

  • Courtney Byerly: will serve as Lead Teacher for Elementary. She joins the existing lead teachers at Pickett and Southwest to provide instructional support to our elementary school students.

These appointments and transfers align with Lexington City Schools’ mission to foster a culture of excellence and provide every student with the opportunity to thrive academically and personally.

In addition, during the same meeting, the Board of Education approved updates to the 2024-2025 school calendar as proposed by Dr. Nakia Hardy, Superintendent, and Dr. Bruce Carroll, Executive Director of Human Resources.

The approved changes include:

  • Required Teacher Workday: August 6, 2024

  • Student Day: August 21, 2024 (previously scheduled as an Optional Teacher Workday)

  • Last Day of School: May 29, 2025 (previously May 30, 2025)

  • Required Teacher Workday: May 30, 2025

  • Optional Teacher Workday: June 2, 2025
