NC Suspension Task Force

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requested that the superintendent from Lexington City Schools present to a state suspension task force some background information on the low suspension rates that have taken place in the district. In the 2007-2008 school year, Lexington City Schools had 815 short term suspensions and 11 long term (over 10 consecutive days) suspension. In 2008-2009 the district had 928 short term and 7 long term suspensions. But, in 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 Lexington City Schools had no short term or long term suspensions. The following message was sent to the committee outlining the philosophy driving the change in the disciplinary practice.
