Mrs. Best

Mrs. Best

Welcome! I am Mrs. Best, and I teach ESL! I love working with Multilingual learners and getting to know all about students' countries and cultures. I have been teaching for 20 years in elementary. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th grades, and ESL. Pickett is a wonderful school and we are so happy to be teaching your child.

I am married and have 2 wonderful daughters, Ava and Nora.

I am originally from Michigan, so I love going back home to visit my family. In my free time I love doing fun activities with my daughters and reading. I would love to do more traveling with my family now that my children are getting older.

Our Multilingual students are screened for the ESL language program if he/she speaks another language in the home besides English. The students are screened using the WIDA framework to determine if English as a Second Language services are needed.

We have students from many different countries in our school, which is what makes us so special! Students who receive ESL services will meet in a small group setting with me 2, 3, or 5 days, depending on the level of English proficiency. Each spring your child will take an ACCESS test through the state to determine their growth in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the English language. We use this data to group students for the following year.

If you ever have any questions about your child's ESL services, please contact me at the school anytime.
