✨ With melodies in her heart, Torrey Jackson shares her passion for music with a new generation. She holds a Master’s in Opera Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and dual bachelor’s degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Appalachian State.

Beyond the classroom, Torrey is an avid supporter and volunteer with Lexington Live Community Theatre and Arts Davidson County, where she contributes both on and off stage. Her performances have spanned stages from New York to Boston to North Carolina, across plays, operas, and musicals. When the curtain falls, she treasures time with her daughter Elliott, creates culinary delights, and dreams up new adventures with her husband Kelly—a fellow music teacher in Lexington City Schools and guitarist who adds his own harmony to their musical life. 🎵✨

🌟 Students in grades 2–5 have been hard at work on Rhythm Rock Stars—a game my husband and I created to bring music literacy to life. To earn their instruments, each class rises to the challenge of following three golden rules: absolute silence after the double bar line, full participation in speaking and singing, and spot-on accuracy (judged by my ears!). The results have been nothing short of inspiring—nearly every class has already earned their instruments and is transforming into true Rhythm Rock Stars! Some groups have begun rocking out on rhythm sticks, and soon, every student will take their skills to the next level with ukulele, xylophone, and drums. 🎶✨

Meanwhile, our first graders are laying the foundation for their own musical adventures. They’ve been exploring body percussion and steady beat, learning the joy of playing together as an ensemble to prepare for their big debut with Rhythm Rock Stars. Along the way, we sprinkle in plenty of movement activities to keep the music alive and active. These young musicians are already beginning to read rhythms, practice note identification, and build the skills that will soon launch them into the spotlight as rhythm rock stars in their own right! 🌟🥁🎵
