Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! My name is Mrs. Berrier and this is my sixth year teaching, & my fifth year here at Pickett Elementary! I have previously taught 4th grade for one year & 3rd grade for four years! I am a former assistant childcare teacher of over six plus years before beginning my teaching career in public schools. In Dec. 2019 I became a graduate of UNC Pembroke (Go Braves!) with a B.S in Elementary Education (K-6) & a concentration in English. I enjoy learning new things & sharing that love for learning with those around me. I believe every child is capable of learning. I am very excited about all that we will learn and accomplish this year in 2nd grade! Ready, Set, Grow!

Classroom / Grade-Level Expectations

Grading Policy: Mrs. Berrier

  • All students are graded using the 10 point scale.

  • Grades are updated by Friday every week.

  • All student class work for the week will be due no later than Friday afternoon each week before leaving school (2:00 pm) unless students have been directed otherwise. (EX. projects, papers etc.)

  • Students will be given one additional school week (five days) to make up any late work at school (some time will be provided at school in addition to time given for work that may be sent home to work on). After the five days the missing work will not be accepted & additional reminders will not be provided past this time. The responsibility is up to the student to turn in any missing work after a due date has passed.

  • *****If students are absent or there are extenuating circumstances, arrangements can be made if you make contact in advance or as soon as possible.  Absent students will be provided additional time to complete assignments*****

Homework

Students will have a homework folder with one side labeled reading and the other labeled math.

  • Reading

  • #1 Students will read 20 minutes each night. Students will have a reading log sent home to log the book/books they read. Students will take AR tests each day when they come into school for part of their morning work on the books they read each night for homework. Students visit the media center each Monday and check out three books. They may go at other appropriate times during the week to switch books as needed.

  • Study spelling words weekly each night! Spelling & vocabulary word lists will be given out each Monday and students will test on the words that following Friday.

  • Math

  • #1 Study multiplication facts.

  • #2 Complete five-six problems on "Common Core Math Daily Review Sheet"  that is sent home each night (M-Th) Problems provided for homework each night will correlate with topics students are learning in class currently/or have studied recently in class within the last week.

  • Every so often any unfinished or incomplete work from earlier in class may be sent home as well to complete for homework this all depends on what we happen to be currently working on in class. (I will always try to send out a reminder for that day if there is something that is to be done for HW)
