Rights Regarding Destruction of Exceptional Education Confidential Records

Lexington City Schools will keep Exceptional Children records for five years after the following: graduation, reaching the maximum attendance age of 22, or death. No inactive EC file will be destroyed as long as that child is enrolled in school or is of an age that he/she could return to our school system.

For certain children with disabilities, special education information may be useful to receive certain benefits such as supplemental security income, social security, or other financial benefits.

Directory information such as the student’s name, address, phone number, grades, attendance record, classes attended, grade level completed and year completed will be maintained without time limitations, as is presently applied to non-disabled students.

Questions may be directed to: Lexington City Schools, Dr. Ray Horton, Exceptional Children’s Director, 1010 Fair Street, Lexington, NC 27292
