Mevlin Maylor

My name is Mevlin Maylor, and I am so excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year as part of a cultural exchange program! I am from Jamaica, and I'm thrilled to share my language, traditions, and experiences with your children and to learn from them as well.

I have been teaching for many years, and I love working with young learners. I believe in creating a classroom environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to explore and be curious. This year, I look forward to introducing some activities and stories from my culture, as well as learning about each of yours.

If you ever have questions or want to share more about your family’s traditions, please feel free to reach out. I am expecting to have a wonderful year of learning, friendship, and discovery together!

Homework

Homework Rules for Success

  • Keep It Short and Fun
Homework is short, it won’t take too long, a little each day helps you grow strong!

  • Do Your Best
Try your hardest, give it your all, mistakes help you learn—they’re never too small!

  • Ask for Help When Needed
If it feels too tricky, don’t you fret, ask an adult—they’ll help you yet!

  • Create a Homework Spot
Find a spot where you can sit, a quiet place to focus a bit!

  • Complete Homework on Time
Homework is due the very next day, so finish it up without delay!

  • Practice, Not Perfection
Homework is for practice, not getting it all right! Mistakes help you learn and shine so bright!

  • Celebrate Your Efforts
When your home work's all done, cheers. You’ve worked so hard—great job, my my dear!

Homework Expectations

The class is expected to complete the homework provided in their binders each night. Homework assignments may vary and can include:

  • Identifying and practicing uppercase and lowercase letters

  • Recognizing and practicing letter sounds

  • Identifying sight words

  • Completing worksheets

  • Reading leveled books

  • Rote counting, number recognition, and simple addition and subtraction

Please remember to check your child's binder each night and work with them on the assigned homework. Homework is an essential part of learning. It reinforces the lessons taught in class and provides valuable practice to help students grow. Encourage your child to complete their homework every night.

Additionally, remember to check their behavior report to stay informed about their progress and conduct at school. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out via email, phone, or ClassDojo.

Thank you for your support!
