Welcome to Career and Technical Education!  I'm Liz Cross, your Career Development Coordinator, and I'm so excited that you are here!  I also supervise our students who are dually enrolled at DDCC. I hope to support career-connected learning by creating meaningful opportunities for students to explore careers, connect with local employers, and experience how their education can lead to a successful future. My goal is to help every student discover their strengths, see possibilities, and make connections that prepare them for life beyond high school. I am a proud graduate of LSHS & I BLEED orange & blue!

Why Career Development?

Career development is important for high school students because it helps them connect what they are learning in school to their future beyond graduation. It gives students opportunities to explore careers, discover their strengths and interests, understand different education and training pathways, and develop the skills employers value.

Success Story

A personal goal for last school year was to have at least one registered pre-apprentice.   Partnering with DDCC & Apprenticeship NC, our first registered pre-apprentice in Early Childhood Education has become a powerful example of what career-connected learning can accomplish. That initial opportunity has now grown into a registered apprenticeship with Lexington City Schools, where the student is working full-time while continuing to build valuable skills and experience. Even more exciting, this success has opened the door to future partnerships with the childcare center at Thomasville Medical Center. It’s a great reminder that when we connect students with authentic work experiences, we’re not just preparing them for careers—we’re creating pathways that benefit students, schools, and our community
