Lexington City Schools has been recognized at the state level for its commitment to supporting military-connected students and families, earning Purple Star Award recognition across every school in the district.

All six schools in Lexington City Schools received the designation from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), including:

  • Lexington Middle School

  • Lexington Senior High School

  • Pickett Elementary School

  • South Lexington School and Developmental Center

  • Southwest Elementary Global Academy

  • Charles England Elementary School

In addition to this full district recognition, Lexington City Schools was named one of only 13 school districts in North Carolina to receive the State Superintendent’s Purple Star Award, highlighting a systemwide approach to supporting military-connected students and their families.

The Purple Star Award is a statewide recognition in North Carolina honoring schools and districts that demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students. This includes establishing dedicated points of contact, providing transition support, and implementing practices that ensure continuity, connection, and a sense of belonging for students whose families serve in the armed forces.

This recognition reflects the intentional work happening across every school in the district to ensure students and families feel supported from the moment they walk through the doors.
