The countdown to a new school year has begun, and Lexington City Schools is excited to welcome students back on Monday, August 10, for the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

Throughout the summer, our teachers, administrators, support staff, and district employees have been hard at work preparing classrooms, participating in professional learning, supporting students through summer programs, strengthening community partnerships, and ensuring our schools are ready to provide every student with a successful start to the new school year.

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, our work will continue to be guided by three expectations:

The first day of school for Lexington City Schools students is Monday, August 10, 2026.

Our employees are excited to welcome students back for another year of learning, growth, and opportunity. We encourage families to begin preparing now by reviewing important dates, district expectations, transportation information, and school procedures before the first day of classes.

The district calendar includes important dates throughout the school year, including holidays, teacher workdays, early release days, report card schedules, and school breaks.

Families are encouraged to attend Districtwide Open House on Thursday, August 6, to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and prepare for the first day of school.

Open House provides students and families an opportunity to become familiar with their school, learn classroom expectations, ask questions, and build relationships before classes begin.

Lexington City Schools is grateful for our continued partnership with the Cory Holt Foundation, which will host its annual Back-to-School Giveaway on Saturday, August 1, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., in the parking lot behind Lexington Senior High School.

The event will provide school supplies and other essential resources to help students begin the school year prepared and ready to learn.

We appreciate the Cory Holt Foundation's continued investment in the students and families of Lexington City Schools and encourage our families to take advantage of this wonderful community event.

As the first day of school approaches, Lexington City Schools encourages families to ensure their students have received all required immunizations before returning to school.

North Carolina law requires immunizations for every child attending school. Students entering kindergarten, 7th grade, and 12th grade have additional immunization requirements that must be met before attending school. Families are encouraged to review their child's immunization records now and schedule any necessary appointments before the start of the school year.

An up-to-date immunization record is due by the first day of school. Families have 30 calendar days from the first day of school to provide the required immunization documentation. If proof of vaccination is not provided by the end of the 30-day period, students will not be permitted to attend school until the required documentation is received, as required by North Carolina law.

Families needing immunizations or additional information may contact the Davidson County Health Department, located at 915 Greensboro Street, Lexington, NC 27292. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling 336-242-2510.

Taking care of immunizations before the first day of school helps ensure students can begin the 2026–2027 school year without interruption and ready to learn.

If your student rides a Lexington City Schools bus, now is the perfect time to download the Where's the Bus app before the first day of school.

The app allows parents and guardians to:

• Track their student's school bus in real time.

• Receive more accurate arrival information.

• Better plan morning and afternoon routines.

• Stay informed throughout the school year.

To get started:

1. Download the Where's the Bus app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

2. Select Lexington City Schools.

3. Enter your student's information.

Student ID numbers are available through your child's school if needed.

Downloading the app before the first day of school can help families feel more prepared and confident as students return to campus.

The Lexington City Schools Clear Backpack Policy remains in effect for the 2026–2027 school year.

Students may bring:

• One clear backpack made of clear plastic, vinyl, or similar transparent material.

• One additional small bag, with or without a handle or strap, measuring no larger than 6 inches by 9 inches by 5 inches.

• One non-clear lunchbox, which may be subject to search.

Backpacks with colored trim, colored straps, mesh pockets, leather-reinforced corners, and small logos are permitted, provided the contents of the backpack remain clearly visible.

Exceptions are provided for medically necessary items following proper inspection by school administration.

Athletic bags, spirit bags, instrument cases, and diaper bags accompanying an infant are also permitted but must be properly stored upon arrival at school.

To help maximize instructional time and minimize distractions, Lexington City Schools' Cell Phone Policy will remain in effect during the 2026–2027 school year.

Elementary Schools

Cell phones are not permitted during the school day.

Lexington Middle School

Cell phones are not permitted during the school day.

Lexington Senior High School

Students may use cell phones only during their designated lunch period.

We appreciate the partnership of our students and families in helping create learning environments where students remain engaged, focused, and successful.

Consequences for Policy Violations

Students who violate the Cell Phone Policy will be subject to the following consequences:

First Offense

• The student will receive a warning.

• The device must be turned off and put away immediately.

Second Offense

• The device will be confiscated.

• A parent or guardian may pick up the device at the end of the school day.

Third Offense

• The device will be confiscated.

• A parent or guardian may pick up the device at the end of the semester.
