LEXINGTON CITY SCHOOLS MEDIA COORDINATORS RECEIVE NATIONAL LIBRARY GRANT AWARD
Lexington City Schools is proud to announce that Marcie Treadway, Media Coordinator at South Lexington Elementary School, and Phillip Hudson, Media Coordinator at Lexington Senior High School, have been selected as recipients of the 2026 Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries grant award.
On May 14, 2026, South Lexington Elementary and Lexington Senior High School were named among 220 schools across 38 states to receive a $5,000 library grant. This year, the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded more than $1 million in grants to school libraries nationwide.
The grant funding will help support and strengthen school library collections by allowing schools to update and diversify books and educational resources for students.
“Libraries help open doors far beyond the classroom, giving children the resources they need to dream, explore, and be bold,” said former First Lady Laura Bush. “When we support school libraries, we are encouraging students to be strong readers and lifelong learners.”
The announcement was made during the annual Laura Bush Book Club event, part of the Engage at the Bush Center series presented by NexPoint. During the event, Mrs. Bush also revealed her 2026 summer reading list, which features books centered around the themes “Freedom to Be Bold,” “Freedom to Dream,” and “Freedom to Explore.”
The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries supports school libraries with the greatest needs to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. Since its creation in 2002, the foundation has awarded more than $24 million to over 4,200 schools across the nation.
Lexington City Schools congratulates Marcie Treadway and Phillip Hudson on this outstanding national recognition and their continued commitment to literacy, student engagement, and excellence in library media services.
